An Abridged Conversation With Bill Moseley

ImageHost.org
Well, I got a chance to interview horror legend Bill Moseley on Sunday, May 2nd at Texas Frightmare Weekend. Bill has appeared in two different Christian horror films - House and Thr3e - both of which were written by Ted Dekker. That made me curious to find out if there was an underlying motivation for doing the films or if they were just jobs for the actor. Unfortunately, I am an idiot and forgot to press record before I started. I was using my Kodak Zi6 video recorder, but he couldn’t do a video interview because of Union laws. I was just using it to record the audio. Apparently, it was too confusing for my little brain.

I figured I would just do my best to write up what I can remember of our conversation. Basically, I just started out by saying that he had been in two different Christian horror films and wondered if there was any hidden agenda to that based on his real life – In layman terms, “Are you a Christian or a casual believer?” He mostly talked about Thr3e. He stated that he didn’t even know it was a Christian-themed movie until he read the script on a flight to Amsterdam (or at least I think that was the country he said). Bill said he read it and just felt that there was something missing. He kept thinking about it and finally realized what it was. There was no cursing to be found anywhere in the script. He said that he found that bizarre in a horror film, especially one that he was hired for off of The Devil’s Rejects where he was constantly using the F word when he played the character of Otis.

Moseley, then said that he found out that there are three rules when someone is making a Christian horror film. They are (1.) no cussing, (2.) no blood, and (3.) no sex. He found that to be very strange, since he thinks of all three of those aspects to be major factors in horror films. In closing on the subject, he basically said that there is an audience for Christian horror out there, obviously proven by the amount of Ted Dekker books that he sees are sold in Wal-Marts.

He was very cool about everything and is such a great guy. I sat for about 15 minutes, waiting for him to be available while he greeted fans and took pictures with almost every one of them. He chatted with them and answered any questions they had. He truly is an actor who is all about the fans. You can check out more about Bill at his official website right here.
