Here's something I ran into this past weekend. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but it looks interesting. It's a 1974 blaxploitation film entitled Abby: The Story of a Woman Possessed. The film has also been referred to as "The Black Exorcist." The movie was actually pulled out of theaters when Warner Bros. sued AIP for it being a rip-off of The Exorcist. I'm not entirely sure what they mean by an "African" exorcism, but the possessed woman is the wife of a minister. The film is described as the story of "a minister's wife (who) becomes posessed by Eshu, the Nigerian god of sexuality. Her father-in-law, an exorcist, is called in to drive the evil spirit away. The spirit that possessed her is the same one he freed in African." The exorcist is played by William Marshall of Blacula fame. Abby's husband is played by Terry Carter, who was Col. Tigh in the original Battlestar Galactica series. You can check out more about the movie here.
